Fitness

Keeping fit and doing some form of excersise has been really important for me in recent times. It gives me a regular little dash of endorphins and no small measure of achievement for staying active.

I’ve competed in several races, though the ‘competition’ has always been with myself. Getting fitter, faster, longer, getting a new personal best. Having goals to aim for has always been a great motivator for me and gets me out on those cold and rainy days.

Fitness History
Like many people as soon as I left school I stopped doing any kind of sports or fitness. It was only towards the end of my 20s, when I found I could actually put on weight that I found something needed to be done.

Between 2000-2002 I ran occasionally.

From 2003 to present I ran 4-5 km at least once a week and usually more and entered six competitive 10km races. My 10k personal best is 00:48:47 and my half-marathon PB is 01:47:30.

In 2006 I was feeling quite fit and entered the New Forest Marathon, but got an injury that kept me out for a month and set back my training so much I felt i had to pull out of the race. I’ve entered the lottery for the London Marathon three times, but never got in.

In 2008 I really wanted to do something other than just running and the occasional swim so I thought Triathlon could be the answer. After two months of training I took part in but failed to complete the ‘South Coast Tri‘ (Olympic distance). I’ve since joined ‘Crystal Palace Triathletes’ club to help with training and advice.

On 31 May 2009 I completed the Edinburgh marathon in a time of 04:12:00 which I was very happy with. I’ve entered the Southwater sprint relay triathlon in Septemeber which i’m now in training for.
